Oasis Foundation Celebrates 35 Years of Turkmenistan’s Independence and 250 Years of America.

Shoreline, Washington — On September 26, 2026, the Oasis Foundation hosted a special Independence Day Celebration at Shoreline Community College, bringing together community members, families, students, local leaders, diplomats, and guests from across the greater Seattle area. The celebration honored the 35th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s independence while also recognizing the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States of America.

The event was a meaningful opportunity to celebrate Turkmenistan’s national heritage, preserve cultural traditions, and strengthen connections with the broader community. Through cultural presentations, traditional elements, food, music, and opportunities for conversation, the gathering highlighted the importance of maintaining cultural identity while building relationships with people from different backgrounds.

For many members of the Turkmen community, the celebration represented more than a national holiday. It was an opportunity to come together, share traditions with younger generations, and celebrate the heritage that continues to connect families and communities across borders.

Celebrating Heritage and Strengthening Community Connections

The celebration brought together guests from various cultural backgrounds, creating a welcoming environment for friendship, cultural exchange, and meaningful conversations. Community members had the opportunity to reconnect with familiar faces, meet new people, and learn more about the traditions and experiences that shape the communities of the Pacific Northwest.

Celebrating 35 years of Turkmenistan’s independence was an important reminder of the value of cultural heritage, national identity, and the traditions passed from one generation to the next. The event also reflected the experiences of immigrant communities who continue to honor their roots while contributing to the communities they now call home.

Recognizing the 250th anniversary of the United States alongside Turkmenistan’s independence made the occasion especially meaningful. It highlighted the connection between celebrating one's heritage and appreciating the opportunities to build a future in a diverse and welcoming society.

Distinguished Guests and Congratulatory Messages

The official program featured remarks from distinguished guests and representatives of the international and local community. Speakers included Ahror Burhanov, Consul General of Uzbekistan in the State of Washington; Jack Kahn, President of Shoreline Community College; and Ginga Kobayashi, representing the Consulate-General of Japan. Community leaders representing the Uzbek, Kazakh, and Kyrgyz communities also participated in the program, demonstrating the importance of friendship and cooperation among neighboring communities.

Congratulatory letters were presented from Congresswoman Suzan DelBene and Esen Aydogdyyev, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to the United States. These messages added significance to the celebration and recognized the occasion's importance to the Turkmen community.

The participation of diplomatic representatives, educational leaders, and community members reflected the value of maintaining strong relationships across cultural and institutional boundaries.

Culture, Community, and Shared Traditions

Guests enjoyed cultural presentations, traditional Turkmen elements, food, and music, celebrating Turkmenistan’s rich heritage while creating opportunities for people from different backgrounds to connect. The gathering also highlighted the importance of sharing traditions with younger generations and strengthening cross-cultural understanding.

The celebration reflected Oasis Foundation’s mission to preserve cultural heritage, serve the community, and build lasting relationships. We sincerely thank all distinguished guests, community representatives, families, volunteers, attendees, and Shoreline Community College for helping make this event meaningful.
