A Celebration of Independence, Culture, and Turkmen-American Friendship
On October 7, 2026, the Embassy of Turkmenistan hosted a special celebration at the historic Anderson House Museum in Washington, D.C., commemorating the 35th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s independence and the 250th anniversary of American independence. This distinguished occasion brought together U.S. officials, diplomats, cultural representatives, and members of the Turkmen diaspora to recognize these important milestones and celebrate the enduring connections between Turkmenistan and the United States.
Oasis Foundation was honored to represent the Turkmen community of Washington State at this memorable gathering. The event provided an opportunity to celebrate Turkmenistan’s national identity, share its rich cultural heritage with a broader audience, and strengthen relationships among people who value cultural understanding, international cooperation, and community engagement.
The celebration was especially meaningful as it recognized two nations and their histories while highlighting the importance of preserving cultural traditions and building lasting friendships across borders.
Honoring Independence and Strengthening International Friendship
The evening began with welcoming remarks by Ambassador Meret Orazov, Counselor of the Embassy of Turkmenistan, who helped mark the significance of the anniversary and the importance of bringing together representatives from both countries. The program continued with congratulatory remarks from U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Mark Cameron, who extended his wishes to Turkmenistan and its people on the 35th anniversary of the country’s independence.
The participation of diplomatic representatives and distinguished guests reflected the value of continued dialogue and cooperation between Turkmenistan and the United States. Beyond commemorating national anniversaries, the gathering served as a reminder that relationships between nations are strengthened through mutual respect, cultural exchange, and opportunities for people to connect with one another.
For members of the Turkmen diaspora, occasions such as this also provide a meaningful way to maintain connections with their homeland while contributing to the diverse communities in which they live. By sharing traditions, celebrating achievements, and engaging with representatives from different backgrounds, community members help build bridges of understanding between cultures.
Celebrating the Richness of Turkmen Culture and Artistic Heritage
A highlight of the celebration was the cultural program, which showcased Turkmenistan’s artistic talent and rich heritage through fashion, visual art, and music.
The evening featured fashion collections by Turkmen designers, celebrating the beauty and craftsmanship of Turkmen clothing. Guests also viewed an exhibition of artwork by Ishanguly Ishangulyyev, People’s Artist of Turkmenistan, highlighting the country’s artistic achievements and cultural traditions.
The program concluded its cultural showcase with piano performances by Maya Tuyliyeva, who presented works by renowned Turkmen composers. Together, these presentations offered guests a meaningful glimpse into Turkmenistan’s cultural identity and demonstrated how art and music can bring people together across cultures.

For Oasis Foundation, participating in this important occasion was an honor and an opportunity to represent the Turkmen community of Washington State at a gathering that brought together people from different regions and backgrounds.
Oasis Foundation is committed to strengthening community connections, preserving cultural heritage, and creating opportunities for people to learn from one another. Participation in cultural and diplomatic events supports these goals by helping raise awareness of Turkmen traditions and encouraging meaningful relationships with public officials, diplomats, community leaders, and members of the broader public.
For Turkmen community members living far from their homeland, celebrations of national independence hold particular significance. They provide an opportunity to reflect on shared history, celebrate cultural traditions, and pass an appreciation for heritage on to younger generations. At the same time, these gatherings demonstrate how cultural identity can remain strong while communities actively participate in the civic and cultural life of the United States.
Representing Washington State at the celebration also highlighted the importance of maintaining connections between Turkmen communities across the country. Through continued participation, collaboration, and cultural exchange, these connections can help create new opportunities for understanding and cooperation.
Looking Toward a Future of Continued Friendship
As Turkmenistan commemorates 35 years of independence and the United States celebrates 250 years of its national history, the occasion at Anderson House served as a meaningful reminder of the importance of heritage, cultural expression, and international friendship.
Oasis Foundation extends its sincere gratitude to the Embassy of Turkmenistan for organizing this wonderful celebration and bringing together distinguished guests, diplomatic representatives, and members of the Turkmen community. We appreciate the opportunity to participate in an event that honored Turkmenistan’s independence, highlighted the achievements of its artists, and celebrated the traditions that continue to unite Turkmen people around the world.
May the friendship between Turkmenistan and the United States continue to grow through mutual respect, cultural understanding, and meaningful cooperation. May events like this continue to bring communities together, preserve the richness of our shared cultural experiences, and create lasting connections for future generations.
